Slow & Steady Development
For decades, the backwoods of Powell River have been awash with ceaseless volunteers creating and maintaining dedicated trails for a burgeoning mountain biking community, from teenagers after school creating backcountry bike parks to teams of trail builders forging entire interconnecting trail networks.
It’s been a slow process, but events in recent years have really thrust Powell River mountain biking towards the front of the British Columbia scene, bringing increasing awareness of the incredibly awesome and varied terrain that this area has to offer.
Firstly, the BC Bike Race came to town! This annual, international 7 day mountain bike stage race, with over 600 yearly participants, travels to various communities across coastal BC over a weeks period, holding race stages in such world class mountain biking communities and Squamish, Whistler, Cumberland, North Vancouver, and now Powell River!
Investing in Community
Our inclusion amongst such established and famous mountain biking towns in British Columbia is a true testament to the incredible work our volunteer biking communities have put in over the years, and recognition of the world class biking to be found here.
Secondly, after years of consultation and design, the Powell River Bike and Skate Park finally opened in 2015 – 2.5 acres of jumps, ramps, wall rides, lifts, lips and landings, transitions, and pump tracks – including the first ever concrete-poured pump track in North America! This amazing facility is already proving to be a central hub of the mountain biking community in Powell River, with routes for all ages and abilities of rider, so strap your bikes on the back of the car and check it out during your time here in Powell River!
